Small Assignment Three: A Picture Worth A Thousand Words
You will have spent the past week shooting photographs - from within 15 feet of your subjects and from their fronts - that tell stories. You will submit the one best photo from the week. You should not have to explain the photo to us. If we can't look at the image and get it, the photo has failed. Remember, the only things a still photograph brings to a viewer are those things that are visible - what you heard, felt, thought, smelled, or cared about when you took the photo are meaningless if they are not conveyed by the light captured in a fraction of a second when your shutter is open.
There looks to have been a fight between the two kids in the background; the image doesn't show the cause but the consequence as the kid in white is about to throw a ball at the kid on the floor. They don't look like they are being playful because of the look in their faces. The little girl even looks a bit scared, maybe she was demanded to be some sort of look out or not to tell parents.

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if this is a fun bounce house or a scary one, but I suppose they can be a mix of both. The girl looks terrified and the boy that is about to get his head bashed in by a big boy with a ball looks like he may be crying. That's what I get from this instant. More likely the boy is laughing and it's all in good fun. :) I'm glad that I can see both girl's eyes, the big boys face and arm with ball and the laying down boy's head-- they don't get cut off by the netting. The sky in the background is a little bright... Maybe seeing some jumping by the girl would be fun (but she might be too scared).
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fight between the two boys in the background. Im not sure if it's a playful fight or a serious fight. The little girl looks scared. Not sure if she's scared of the jumping castle in general or being stuck in the same area as a fight in a jumping castle. Either way she doesn't look like she's enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteThis definitely feels like a scene from childhood. It reminds me of the things that happen when parents turn their backs. The standing boy, with an intense facial expression, seems to be about to pelt the boy on the ground with a ball. While the girl seems scared as to what is going on, although it is hard to determine if it is being in the bounce house or if its the fight that is taking place that she is uncomfortable with.
ReplyDeleteThere is a question of the interaction between the three characters, children, depicted. Shown is two males directly interacting and a female looking away. The setting is playful as it is in one of those super bounce jump things. The boys look as if they are rough housing or actually fighting while the girl looks away. I got a sense of the different ways males and females act and socialize, specifically when interacting with someone else of the same sex and that during childhood.
ReplyDeleteThe scene in this photograph appears to be a slightly hostile one. These kids are in an environment that should be fun and joyful, but the two boys in the background appear to be fighting and the girl seems to be scared of the situation. I do agree with one of the other comments that the bright background is a bit distracting, but I'm glad that the subjects exhibit good lighting and tonality.
ReplyDeleteThe scene is interesting because when you see children in a jumping castle they are usually so happy and jumping around like crazy. This scene is kind of eerie though. It is hard to tell if they fight in the background is playful or serious. The little girl looks concerned with something but it is hard to tell if it is regarding the fight behind her or something she sees beyond the jumping castle.
ReplyDeleteThis photograph largely captures the interactions of children, how they learn to behave with one another, and how they decipher their actions within the scope of other's reactions. There is a little bit of agressiveness and play all combined into the strange, strange world of bounc houses. The boy in the background about to pelt the other with the ball just seems like he is playing, perhaps too agressively, but the vibe does not seem like a fight, just boy-play. The girl in the foreground, however, seems to have a whole lot of mixed emotions, from joy and excitement about the bounce house, to unease and uncertainty of the largely boy populated bounce house and the events going on behind her. The photo could use a little work because the sky in the background seems to be a bit blown out, however the subjects seem to be properly exposed.
ReplyDeleteThis is really easy to read I think, good job. The interaction between the two boys seems to be a little bit aggravated, but still playful. If they really hated each other the yellow ball would be replaced by a fist. No, this seems more like brotherly fighting to me. The expression of the girl in the foreground however is kind of mysterious. She seems worried, perhaps she is contemplating tattling on her two older brothers. the exposure is a little off, but I think the saturation level is right on.
